Kenyan Man Loses His Life on Everest
Kenyan avid mountaineer, Cheruiyot Kirui, has sadly passed away while attempting to reach the summit of Mt Everest without additional oxygen support.
Kirui, recognized for his intrepid nature and unyielding determination, was discovered just a few meters below of the peak of the world’s tallest mountain.
His ambitious venture captivated many but concluded in heartache.
Cheruiyot Kirui embarked on his “Big Project 2024: Everest No-Ox” in April with optimism and a clear goal: to conquer the summit of Mt Everest unassisted by supplemental oxygen.
This remarkable achievement has been attained by only a small fraction of climbers, with no African having yet joined this exclusive group.
In a social media post, Kirui elucidated his motivation: “While I believe I can comfortably ascend Everest with oxygen, it diminishes the thrill of the climb for me. Uncertainty without oxygen adds excitement, infusing the element of adrenaline, and we must ascertain.”
Documenting his Expedition
Kirui meticulously chronicled his journey on social media, sharing updates that conveyed both the anticipation and the obstacles encountered during his expedition.
His initial posts recounted the setbacks at Ramenchhap airport due to inclement weather, resulting in the loss of valuable acclimatization days.
We stand with the nation and the mountaineering community as we mourn his passing. His courage will forever be etched in our memories. Our thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family during this difficult time.
So tragic! Our prayers are with his family.
